The History of the Newburgh Trolley: By Ray Kelly

In the late 19th Century, Newburgh was a thriving community located on the Hudson River 60 Miles North of New York City. Many would take an incredibly scenic cruise up the Hudson River from New York on one of the many beautiful Steamboats of the day. From New York, they would head North to escape the heat of the city stopping at Newburgh and other ports along the river to spend a day or two and perhaps take a local trolley to go shopping or relax. The Trolley became a major mode of transportation for both tourists and local residents.
